Lose weight with high-protein diets

WebMD stated recently that high-protein diets have become a popular way to lose weight because emerging research has hinted that protein may be able to satisfy hunger better than either fats or carbohydrates.

RESEARCH BEHIND THE CONCEPT

Participants in a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported greater satisfaction, weight loss and less hunger when fat was reduced to 20% of the total calories in their diets, protein was increased to 30%, and carbs accounted for 50%. The study participants ate some 441 fewer calories a day when they followed this high-protein diet and regulated their own calorie intake.

Another study, reported in the Journal of Nutrition, showed that a high-protein diet combined with exercise enhanced weight and fat loss and improved blood fat levels. Researchers suggest that higher-protein diets help people better control their appetites and calorie intake.

Diets higher in protein and moderate in carbs, along with a lifestyle of regular exercise are often purported by experts to reduce blood fats and maintain lean tissue while burning fat for fuel without the dieters becoming sidetracked with constant hunger.

Researchers don't understand exactly how protein works to turn down appetite. They surmise that it may be because a high-protein diet causes the brain to receive lower levels of appetite-stimulating hormones. It may be due to eating fewer carbs and/or the specific protein effect on hunger hormones and brain chemistry.

HOW MUCH PROTEIN DO WE NEED?

We need protein at all stages of life, for a variety of bodily functions. It is the major component of all cells, including muscle and bone.
It is needed for growth, development, and immunity to fight off infections and protect the body.

The Institute of Health's Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) recommendations allow for a wide range of protein intake - anywhere from 10% to 35% of total calories - for normal, healthy adults. For example, on an 1,800 calorie diet, you could safely consume anywhere from 45 grams (that's 10% of calories) to 218 grams (35%) of protein per day.

However, the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein is 56 grams a day for men and 46 grams a day for women. Most Americans have no problem getting this much, but would struggle to take in enough protein to make up 35% of total calories.

That said, is it possible to eat too much protein? There are no dangers associated with higher intakes of protein - unless you have kidney disease. To get the potential
weight loss benefit, experts advise aiming for around 120 grams of protein a day. If you want to increase your protein intake, do it slowly over the course of a week. To be on the safe side, check with your doctor before adding large amounts of protein to your diet.

HOW WELL DOES JERKY DIRECT STACK UP?

Ok – We all agree that Jerky Direct products are delicious and hard to put down but let’s examine how the numbers stack up. A serving of jerky is one ounce and most bags contain four ounces or four servings. Let’s look at five key factors - protein, carbs, fat, calories and sodium.

PROTEIN – Jerky Direct Beef, Buffalo and Turkey Jerky all provide between 11 and 12 grams of pure protein per serving. Most of us can usually finish off a bag by ourselves so that is 44 – 48 grams of protein in one shot. Is there a more well established or natural protein source on earth? It makes whey shakes and soy bars pale in comparison!

CARBS – The Jerky Direct product line falls between 5 and 7 grams of carbohydrates per serving depending on the flavor. This represents only 2% of government established Daily Value and is a perfect fit for the diets we have been discussing here.

FAT – An extremely low fat value of just 1 gram per serving is the norm on most all of the Jerky Direct products but some such as the Turkey BBQ come in with zero grams of fat. It should be noted that none of the products contain any saturated or trans fats.

CALORIES – All three types of jerky – beef, buffalo and turkey – could be considered low calorie/high protein snacks with calorie counts coming in between 60 and 90 calories per serving.

SODIUM – Sodium content has long been a concern for salt-conscious consumers of jerky and Jerky Direct has taken that concern into consideration. A nationally known producer of beef jerky has consistent sodium values in the range of 600 mg per one ounce serving which constitutes 26% of the aforementioned daily value. If a person was to consume an entire four ounce bag of this company’s jerky, he would have over 100% of his daily sodium in just one snack. Jerky Direct has made a concerted effort to remedy this situation and keep sodium levels under 390 mg per serving with many as low as 270 mg per serving such as the Organic Beef BBQ Jerky. That represents only 11% of the daily value which leaves room for other salt in your day!

So what do all these numbers really mean? In a nutshell, it helps to reassure us that Jerky Direct products ARE a
healthy and tasty snack.

A Time of Change

During the past few years it has become a time of change. People that have lost jobs in manufacturing industries and in the service sector have found it hard to find replacement jobs. Many people have found themselves looking for business opportunities online and work from home opportunities. It is a time of change indeed and there are many reasons to be positive at this time. Despite the negative talk about scams online, there remains some highly workable and well supported work from home opportunities out there.

Here are my Top 5 Benefits Of Working From Home:

1. More Family Time:

There will be a lot more time to spend with loved ones. Relationships are the most important thing in life and working from home gives people the opportunity to make the most of family relationships. As long as you have some time management and discipline with regards to the work to be done, a great balance can be achieved.

2. Being the Boss:

It is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of working from home. There will be no body to tell you what to do. Some people choose to really jump into this role whole-heartedly and make the most of their new position of power. It is an opportunity to take control, and plan, and be proactive in order to make working from home a success.

3. Goodbye Rat Race:

You can say goodbye to the rat race and take the reins of your own life. The petty competition in corporate world workplaces will be a thing of the past. People that work from home get to avoid the long daily commute to work, and avoid stresses of the work place.

4. Work Load:

Work load is mentioned as a benefit here because if the work is interesting and enjoyable, then it won't even feel like work. The big advantage of a home based business is the potential to focus on your passions and create a business around that. When people do what they enjoy doing suddenly the work tends to disappear. It gets replaced by passion and interest and good causes.

5. Earning Potential:

This is what is so special about working from home. There really is no limit on earning potential. There are business opportunities all over the place on the internet today. The potential depends on the individual, the ambition and the will to succeed. There are many stories on the web about overnight successes. These stories are mostly hype and false. The fact is that most of these stories are of people who probably worked hard for a year or more laying the groundwork, and then launched their master product, and it became a massive success. No big success comes without putting in some groundwork. Anyhow there is excellent earning potential in
home based businesses.

I've seen a lot of different schemes to make money on the Internet, and I know there are a lot out there that don't work but don't give up!! Do your research about the business!! Get to know your sponsor and find out if they will really be supportive.

Make sure the business is listed with the Better Business Bureau!!! They should be!!

This is what is working for me:

Why Choose Network Marketing Over a Traditional J.O.B.?

The work at home industry has seen a phenomenal growth surge in the past few years. For many people it is the answer to prayers brought on by the downsizing of Corporate America, the high prices in the economy forcing two incomes and the need for parents to be at home with the kids. The back to basics force in the USA is doing great things for home businesses.

But some people are fearful of Network Marketing. It has taken on a stigma in some instances with companies going out of business; tales of huge earnings to be made in little or no time; inflated stories of large down lines that will support you in wealth for the rest of your life while working little to no hours. But these stories are getting fewer and farther between as people realize that they don't need to pollute the minds of their potential new business people.

Network Marketing is an industry where you can truly make yourself. Given the right product and good methods of marketing yourself, Network Marketing is an awesome business arena to check out if you are in looking for your next venture.

Why choose Network Marketing? For one, the positives far outweigh the negatives. Here are a few of my reasons to choose Network Marketing over another type of business.

  • Companies policies are already set
  • Some companies handle all shipping and returns
  • Forms, sales tools and recruiting materials are created by the company
  • Free or inexpensive web sites to get you going
  • Some companies handle your sales tax reporting
  • Reputable and established companies that are leaders in the industry
  • Inexpensive supplies
  • Keep the benefits of owning your own business
  • No re-creating the wheel with business tools
  • Ability to grow your team and earn money for your efforts as well as their efforts
  • Huge product range
  • Good pay and good quality products

So how do you find the right company that fits into your life and interest level? Research!! It is the only way. Read and don't be afraid to ask tough questions. Check their policies and procedures and make sure you can live with them. Look for established companies with proven track records. Know your dreams and desires. Look for a company that fits into your lifestyle. If you have a bad back, you probably would not be happy lugging big displays around, but if you love to cook, doing a business that involves food and the kitchen would be a good fit.

Be sure to ask about upline support. Having a team of people helping you succeed is always an added bonus.

Finding the perfect Network Marketing business for you is right around the corner. You will enjoy the flexibility it brings and the fun it involves. Meeting awesome people is also a huge plus.

Do your research and enjoy your new life! You will surprise yourself at how good you can be running your own business and your family will love having you around more as well!

Home Business Statistics That May Surprise You.

It’s no wonder workers are leaving their regular jobs in droves and setting up businesses in their homes. Those working for others have an average annual paycheck of $28,500 according to national statistics. At the same time, the 27.1 million in-home businesses are averaging $64,250- nearly twice as much! And 20% of them earn more than $80,000 per year!

95% of those who start a home business succeed in their very first year! An amazing 85% are still in business and doing very well after 3 years! That compares to a miserable 20% of new conventional small businesses still solvent after 3 years.

Why strive for a failure rate of 80% when a home business is almost sure to succeed if you join with a legitimate, reputable, established company and manage it properly? Many home business owners left their regular jobs to avoid mounting stress and lead a better life. They recognized that their health and well-being of their families could be at stake. Almost immediately, their lives were changed for the better.

  1. They were able to spend more quality time with their families and had more time for fun and recreation.
  2. They enjoyed the flexible hours, the freedom to wear what they wished and the lack of putting in “face time” and dealing with office politics.
  3. They experienced more job satisfaction because they were their own boss
  4. They avoided long, tiresome commutes during peak traffic times.

There is much talk these days about family values. Working at home is a major way to satisfy those basic needs. There are also many other benefits, such as tax benefits, which are also advantageous. Many people start out part time until they build up the skills and income level needed to make it a full time business.

Consider these facts:

  • 90% of all Americans are living from paycheck to paycheck.
  • 80% of all people making over $50,000 per year own their own business.
  • Tax laws are designed to provide benefits for business owners, not employees.
  • Over 80% of America’s work force beyond the age of 35 realize that their present job will not lead them to financial independence.
  • There is absolutely no job security in working for someone else.
  • People want out of the “rat race”. The franchise industry is booming even though most who become franchises have to risk everything they have including their home equity, savings, etc.
  • Network marketing is a $200 billion dollar a year industry. It’s a global phenomenon.
  • Many Fortune 500 companies now offer products through network marketing because it is considered “the wave of the future”.
  • People want to take control of their financial destinies and are searching for the right vehicle to achieve financial independence.

Don’t let yourself become a sad statistic. Take control of your financial future today!

Formaldehyde ... What Is It?

Formaldehyde is a colorless, strong-smelling gas. It is widely used to manufacture building materials and numerous household products. Its most significant use in homes is as an adhesive resin in pressed wood products. There are two types of formaldehyde resins: urea formaldehyde (UF) and phenol formaldehyde (PF). Products made of urea formaldehyde can release formaldehyde gas; products made of phenol formaldehyde generally emit lower levels of the gas.

Where Is It Found?

Formaldehyde is an important industrial chemical used to make otherchemicals, building materials, and household products. It is used inglues, wood products, preservatives, permanent press fabrics, paperproduct coatings, and certain insulation materials. Building products made with formaldehyde resins can "off-gas" (emit) formaldehyde gas. These products include particle board used as sub-flooring or shelving, fiberboard in cabinets and furniture, plywood wall panels, and foamed-in-place urea-formaldehyde insulation. Some sources that previously contained formaldehyde are either no longer used or have been reformulated to contain less formaldehyde. Incomplete combustion, cigarette smoking, and burning wood, kerosene, and natural gas also release formaldehyde.

What Are the Health Effects?

Formaldehyde is normally present at low levels, usually less than 0.06ppm (parts per million), in both outdoor and indoor air. When present in the air at levels at or above 0.1 ppm, acute health effects can occur including watery eyes; burning sensations in the eyes, nose and throat; nausea; coughing; chest tightness; wheezing; skin rashes; and other irritating effects. Formaldehyde affects people in various ways. Some people are very sensitive to formaldehyde while others may have no noticeable reaction at the same level of exposure. Sensitive people can experience symptoms at levels below 0.1 ppm. The World Health Organization recommends that exposure should not exceed 0.05 ppm. Colds, flu, and allergies can cause symptoms similar to some of those produced by exposure to formaldehyde. Formaldehyde has caused cancer in laboratory animals and may cause cancer in humans; there is no known threshold level below which there is no threat of cancer. The risk depends upon amount and duration of exposure.

SHOCKING! Formaldehyde is a common ingredient in baby shampoo, bubble bath, deodorants, perfume, cologne, hair dye, mouthwash, toothpaste, hair spray, and many other personal care items.

Don't take our word on it ... do you own research. One great site is http://www.ewg.org/health

Do You Use These POISONS in YOUR Home??

*Bleach. It's a strong corrosive that that can irritate the skin, eyesand respiratory tract; vapors can cause fluid in the lungs which canlead to coma or death. (Note: Never mix bleach with ammonia or other acids, even vinegar. It causes deadly fumes.)

*Air fresheners. Many contain formaldehyde, a carcinogen. Some contain phenol, small amounts of which can cause cold sweats, convulsions, circulatory collapse, coma and, in extreme cases, death. Most air fresheners work by either masking the one scent with another or by interfering with your ability to smell by releasing a nerve-deadening agent.

*Carpet and upholstery shampoos. Some contain perchloroethyene, a known carcinogen that can damage the liver, kidneys and various systems.

*Furniture polish. Many contain nitrobenzene, a chemical that is easily absorbed through the skin. Repeated exposure can cause genetic changes, birth defects, cancer, liver, kidney, heart and central nervous system damage.

There are nontoxic cleaning products available, but just because products use words such as "natural", "fresh", "gentle", "simple" and, in some cases, even "nontoxic", you still need to turn the bottle over and read the ingredients.

"Companies can say pretty much what ever they want to." "For instance, labels that say 'unscented' or 'fragrance-free' on the front can say 'masking fragrance added' on the back."

Don't take our word on it ... do you own research. One great site is

Teriyaki Rice Bowl

Teriyaki Rice Bowl
4 Servings

1 4-oz bag of Teriyaki Beef or Buffalo slab Jerky cut in 1/2 inch pieces
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
4 cups broccoli flowerets
2 carrots, thinly sliced
1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
2 cups snow peas
3 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
4 cups cooked rice

Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic and cook, stirring often for 2 minutes. Add broccoli, carrots, red pepper and snow peas. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring often. Add teriyaki sauce, Teriyaki Jerky and stir. Stir in rice and let simmer for 2 minutes, stirring often. Serve in bowls, with side teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, duck sauce, and hot mustard.

*** A quick version of this can be made using oriental frozen vegetables, and add the Jerky to the frozen vegetables just a few minutes before they are done to add the teriyaki/jerky flavor and all you have to add is the 3 tablespoons of Teriyaki sauce and the cooked rice !!!!
